BYSN MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to collaboratively improve the quality and diversity of services for youth at risk that allows them to develop the academic, work-readiness, life skills and support structure necessary to become self-sufficient adults.

ABCD Career Explorations

 

  1. What type of program is this?

    1. Career Exploration Program; Year-round program for out of school youth who would like to receive more intensive training within a specific career path.

  2. What is the age range of students in this program?

    1. 16 - 24 years old.

  3. What are the program hours?

    1. Varies throughout the program components. Training/college courses are usually a couple of hours per day for 2-3 days per week. Internships can be up to 20 hours per week.

  4. What are some common barriers of youth served?

    1. Low-income youth who face a wide range of barriers: homelessness, DYS, DCF, parenting/pregnant, substance abuse, disabilities, etc.

  5. What services do you offer?

    1. Wrap-around support including case management, college credits, job searches, career-specific training, professional development/job readiness workshops, internship placements, resume building, mock interviews, etc.

  6. Do you provide a stipend ($$$) to students in the program?

    1. Yes, youth receive a monthly stipend during the fall and winter and then get paid hourly for their internship placements in the spring and summer.

  7. What is your BYSN “Special Sauce”?

    1. Career Explorations is our year-round program for out of school youth who would like to receive more intensive training within a specific career path. There are 4 main career paths youth can choose from: culinary arts, early childhood education, health careers, and criminal justice. Youth begin in the Fall with general job readiness training, move into career-specific training in the winter months along with taking a college course, and then get paid internship placements in the spring and summer.

  8. When can I enroll?

    1. Enrollment begins in the early Fall and then continues on a rolling basis throughout the year.
