The Boston Youth Service Network (BYSN) is a group of community-based organizations working collaboratively to provide alternative education and employment pathways for at risk youth, ages 16-24. Organizations engage youth through a continuum of programs including nontraditional learning environments in alternative schools, career exploration programs to build job and life skills, integrated support services and postsecondary connections.
BYSN has a Youth Committee made up of one youth representative from each member organization. Each Youth Committee representative serves as a liaison for their peers; to ensure that the youth voice is heard.
The BYSN Youth Committee has actively engaged their peers through various types of activities. For example, they have participated with the Youth Jobs Coalition to advocate for funding for youth jobs and served as a focus group for the Boston PIC on the drop-out rate. The Youth Committee has also created a youth-run forum called the Speaker Series, which allows Boston youth to openly and safely discuss issues in their communities. The Speaker Series includes a guest expert in the particular topic of discussion. Expert guests have included Councilor Tito Jackson, Councilor Felix Arroyo, Representative Carlos Henriquez, and Suffolk County Assistant District Attorney Adam Foss.
BYSN’s Youth Committee has been planning and coordinating the event for their peers, based on input from their youth-conducted surveys.
Most BYSN youth have disengaged from traditional school settings; they miss out on social and celebratory events like Prom. All youth enrolled in a BYSN Program have been invited to attend this memorable event.
Tickets were Pre-Sale ONLY and could be purchased from Program Directors.
