Mission Possible! College Access Program

Mission Possible! seniors

Mission Possible! links low-income, at-risk youth with comprehensive resources they need to overcome a persistent achievement gap that leaves our city's students of color at an educational, economic and social disadvantage.

The program serves at-risk Boston youth who live and attend school in the shadows of some of the regions most prestigious colleges, though too few of these students are given real opportunities to attain higher education. These students need better academic preparation, more knowledge of available opportunities, and support with college application and financial aid processes. They need to start planning for college as early as 8th grade, with support from their families, teachers and Sociedad Latina staff and mentors. Through established partnerships with six Colleges of the Fenway and Boston Public Schools, MP aligns services to ensure local youth graduate, enroll in higher education and are prepared to succeed.

Because academic ability is integral to college acceptance and later success in the college classroom, and because the vast majority of Mission Possible! participants are not academically prepared for college, the program integrates the following components:

  • Homework help
  • Numeracy classes
  • College entrance exam preparation
  • College readiness support
  • Campus visits
  • Parent engagement and education
  • New! this year: Follow-up support for first-year college students
