The BOSTON YOUTH SERVICE NETWORK is a group of community-based organizations providing an integrated continuum of Alternative Education and Career Exploration programs for at-risk youth who have not found success in traditional systems. REFER A YOUTH.

 

Member organizations have a shared mission to improve the quality and diversity of services for youth so they develop the academic, work-readiness, life skills and support structure necessary to become productive adults.

BYSN Youth Showcase

GED Plus at ESAC emphasizes relationship-building between staff and students, attainment of the GED credential, and goal setting beyond the GED. Students are encouraged to question, listen and contribute.

Thursday, June 17 at the Epiphany School from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm (see attached flyer).  The Multicultural AIDS Coalition’s State of Emergency Initiative and the Department of Health and Human Services HIV/AIDS Regional Resource Network Program are joining together  to engage 100-150 youth, ages 16 – 21, in discussions and activities focused on sexual health.

Over 300 youth gathered for a Teen Jobs Rally at Government Center on June 15.  See below for press coverage.  Passage of the Extenders Bill contains funding for youth jobs, extending unemployment benefits, and healthcare FMAP money.  Senator Scott Brown is an important swing vote - call his office June 16-17 (202-224-4543) and ask him to vote for the Extenders Bill.

2010 Citizens Summer Enrichment Series RFP

Reminder that the 2010 Citizens Summer Enrichment Series RFP has been released.  The Boston Capacity Tank will award 5-6 café grants totaling $25,000 and about 5-10 jobs grants totaling $50,000.  The deadline to apply is June 16th at noon.  Agencies will be notified of award by June 30th.  The grant period will run from July 5th - September 12th.  The guidelines have been posted to the BMA's website at www.bmaboston.org.  Please contact Sharlene if you have any questions at sjohnson@bmaboston.org.

9000 youth jobs are getting cut across the State, and 2000 in Boston, because of State and Federal cuts.
8,500 youth will get jobs in Boston out of 14,000 who apply -- taking us back to 2005 levels when there were 75 homicides.

YouthWalks Media Project Premiere, including BYSN Youth Voices videos!

The Youthwalks Media Project premieres videos created by teens from around Boston, including youth from BYSN Youth Voices project at ABCD.  The premiere is Saturday, June 19 at 6:00 pm at Zumix (260 Summer Street, East Boston).  Common Boston volunteers worked with three youth groups around the city to create walking tours that are personal portraits of their own neighborhoods, and that feature the youths’ own photographs, video footage, and voiceovers. The tours will take on the theme of “Bridges and Boundaries,” providing a look at the perceived edges and points of connection for teens living in three of this year’s common points.
