GED TEACHER
Full Time Position (37.5 hours)

Position Description:

To act as GED Teacher in the youth education program in two interrelated functions. First, develop and implement curriculum for GED subjects. Second, maintain communication with students providing on-going assessment of students’ needs and assisting in addressing these.

The Director of Youth Education

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• To support the students by:
• Preparing and implementing curriculum for GED subjects.
• Teaching assigned GED subjects
• Assist with providing follow-up to students after they have left the program.
• Conducting classes and workshops to develop students’ skills and career interests.
• Assisting in the formulation of individual educational/vocational plan for each student.
• Coordinating schedule of student GED exams with Director of Youth Education.

• To counsel the students by:
• Acting as an academic advisor to students, ensuring that ongoing evaluation of academic progress is maintained in Individualized Service Plans and that students have a “next step” plan in place.
• Working with other staff members in developing project based learning and “school to career” activities.
• Providing personal, academic or vocational counseling to students when appropriate.
• Maintaining communication with students to provide on-going assessment of students’ needs.
• Attending individual supervision and staff meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.

• To follow all approved agency policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

• Bilingual – Spanish / English; bicultural preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Sensitivity and awareness of Hispanic culture and issues.
• Familiarity with issues related to education.
• Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of an educational and social support team.
• Ability to teach academic subjects in either language.
• Ability to work with people of all ethnic, cultural, social and economic backgrounds.
• Ability to pass a criminal offense record inquiry.
