Hosted by:
Boston Private Bank and Trust Company
Are you committed to supporting young people who are out of school and work?
Are you looking for evidence based practices to incorporate into your programming?
Are you a funder interested in supporting the success of disconnected young people?
Please join us for a lively conversation about these questions and hear from the following:
Dan Bloom, Director, Health and Barriers to Employment Policy Area, MDRC. MDRC (formerly Manpower Demonstration Research Corporation) is a New York and California based nonprofit, nonpartisan education and social policy research organization dedicated to learning what works to improve programs and policies that affect the poor. In March 2010, Bloom published a paper entitled “Building a Learning Agenda Around Disconnected Youth” which makes the case for developing a menu of approaches to serve the population of disconnected youth; building knowledge about mature programs (to better understand whether they work, for whom, and why); and creating new programs that address areas of unmet need. Bloom will share findings and recommendations from this report. (Note: A copy of the report accompanies this invitation.)
Ed Dolan, Deputy Commissioner, Massachusetts Department of Youth Services will present innovative evidence based practices DYS is using to engage youth in its care.
Grantees from the Hyams Foundation’s Teen Futures Initiative will share some of their outreach and engagement strategies.
Following brief presentations, the audience will have an opportunity to engage with the presenters and one another around engaging disconnected youth.
