Sociedad Latina and Youth NOISE Present at the National Council of La Raza Conference
"I noticed that people from other communities across the nation could relate to the problems Youth NOISE is combating in our community," said Youth NOISE youth leader Zacharriah Peeples. Representatives from Youth NOISE presented at the Lideres Summit of the National Council of La Raza's Annual Conference in San Diego during July 11-13, 2008. Youth NOISE representatives presented to youth from all over the country about their model and work, with the goal to help other youth take action in their own community around issues of violence and youth/ police relationships.
"It was a great opportunity to present at the conference," said Peeples. "Youth were inspired by the work we do and wanting to do more in their own communities."
A key example of the work Youth NOISE does in our community was the most recent community meeting in response to the violence in the neighborhood. Community members, representatives from institutions and universities, street workers and police officers all gathered to discuss what actions the Mission Hill community can take together to prevent violence in our community. This meeting is the first in a series of meetings to be hosted throughout the year.
