El Centro's Cultural Festival Highlights Student Poetry
Students and staff from El Centro del Cardenal organized a Cultural Festival in early March that brings together the school, families, and community partners in an annual celebration and community building event. The festival highlighted student poetry from an intensive poetry workshop the previous months. In addition, several students (pictured below) re-enacted a controversial trial they learned about in their social studies class.
"Across Thousands of Miles" by Stephanie
Across thousands of miles,
The promised land lies,
In search of the golden dream,
I leave my beautiful island behind.
Across thousands of miles,
For a journey into the unknown,
To find a better future,
In sarch of a new home.
Across thousands of miles,
To work hard all day long,
Unrecognized and mistreated,
I often dream 'soon it'all all pay off'.
Across thousands of miles,
Family back home eager for scraps,
I've hung in for so long,
But I'm afriad I can't anymore
I want to go back.
Across thousands of miles,
I return to my home,
Old and worn out,
From a journey into the unknown.
